Worldwide, a standardized ear acupuncture protocol, known as the NADA protocol, has been provided within refugee populations in Africa, Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, post-war Guatemala and Burma to treat the effects of trauma and violence.  An estimated 90% of UK prisons offer ear acupuncture within group settings for prisoners. Together with specialists from Canada, the US and Mexico, Crossroads Community Acupuncture has adapted this model to establish 24 clinics in the US/Mexican Border region for people affected by violence.

This presentation offers the chance to learn more about how acupuncture is used within community settings in our border region to reduce anger, stress, anxiety, fear and to promote peace, community engagement and safety.  Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an ear acupuncture group session.

Presenter and acupuncturist Ryan Bemis is licensed as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Auricular Detoxification Specialist Supervisor by the State of New Mexico.  He has 14 years of experience in international community health and outreach.  He works as a researcher and consultant for international community based NADA ear acupuncture programs, and is coordinator of the NADA Border Project.  Ryan is a contributing writer and editor of Guidepoints, a field publication devoted to the use of acupuncture within addictions, psychiatric and disaster relief settings.
